During the millions of years when human beings were simply surviving, the average life expectancy was not much more than 20 years. Small groups of nomadic hunters/gatherers moved from location to location – always wary of wild animals and other small bands of humans who might attack and kill them. The stress of finding food, the hostile environment, and the short life span conspired to keep human beings from developing their mental potential. First, with the domestication of plants and animals, and then around the turn of the 20th century, with the advent of greater hygiene, average life expectancy rose considerably – to about 40 years of age. Along with universal public education in western cultures the number of people who lived long enough and now had more free time to think, as opposed to simply survive, rose exponentially. Since then the life expectancy has been steadily rising to over 70 years, and as more people have become freed from the anxiety of survival, it has led to an exponential increase in the generation of concepts and inventions by using our mental potential. As with body the 2 areas of focus are nutritious food and mental exercise – language, math, writing, memorizing, problem solving, logical and consequential reasoning. As with the physical body today we spend a considerable amount of time developing the mental potential of children. Read more…
